Andrew Palmer Todd

The Tasman Quartet will be joined by pianist Andrew Palmer Todd for an intimate evening of chamber music. The program opens with music by two titans of the classical period, including a quartet by the father of the quartet himself. The second half features the autobiographical work of Czech composer.

Pianist Andrew Palmer Todd (www.andrewtodd.com) has been heard in concert throughout the United States. As the winner of the Artists International Piano Award, Mr. Todd made his New York Debut at Carnegie Hall. He is also a winner of the Notes at 9,000: Emerging Artists Series held in Winter Park, Colorado. While he is in Oregon, he will present solo recitals at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Good Samaritan Episcopal Church in Corvallis, and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Salem. He will also give a master class at Lewis and Clark College.

Mr. Todd has made recent appearances in recital and as chamber musician at Fort Lewis College, Metro State College of Denver, Mesa State College, University of Colorado, the Colorado Music Festival, the Aspen Music Festival and School, SUNY Oswego, Western State College, Converse College, and the University of Denver. As soloist he has appeared with the Aurora and Littleton Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Todd has also performed in New York at the Polish Consulate, the French Consulate, Steinway Hall, the City University of New York, the Church of the Holy Trinity, the Mannes College of Music, and the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer. His performances have been featured on WQXR’s (New York) Young Artists Showcase, KVOD (Denver), and KAJX (Aspen, Colorado).

Mr. Todd received a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Colorado in Boulder where he was a student of David Korevaar. He holds additional degrees from Northwestern University and the Mannes College of Music. At the University of Colorado, Mr. Todd was awarded a Beverly Sears Career Grant, the David Grusin Fellowship, the Robin Sawhill Award for Excellence in Performance, and the Howard B. Waltz Scholarship. Additionally he was a finalist in the Ekstrand Graduate Competition at the university as well as the winner of the Entrepreneurship Center’s Career Competition.

After two summers at the Aspen Music Festival and School, Mr. Todd attended the Conservatoire Americaine in Fontainebleau, France where he was the only American pianist selected for the program. During the summer of 2003, Mr. Todd served as the Festival Director of the International Keyboard Institute and Festival in New York City. Mr. Todd’s first CD featuring the works of Bach, Beethoven, Granados and Rachmaninoff was released in 2002 and is available on Roaring Fork Records. Principal teachers include Pavlina Dokovska, Jerome Rose, Herbert Stessin, and David Kaiserman.

Andrew currently lives in Basalt, Colorado with his wife Lauren and four-year old son Jackson (aka “Spiderman”). An accomplished organist, Mr. Todd is the music director at Christ Episcopal Church in Aspen, Colorado where he also directs the church’s concert series Music in the West End (www.musicinthewestend.com). He is on the faculty of Colorado Mountain College. A former professional soccer player, he has played in the United States, Germany, and Peru. He also enjoys fly-fishing and running throughout the Elk Mountain Range in the Colorado Rockies.
